<media:keywords>Flydubai FZ1073, Smit Machchhar, Flydubai pilot stabbing, Dubai Tel Aviv flight, Flydubai incident, Tabuk emergency landing, cockpit attack</media:keywords>

Was the Flydubai FZ1073 incident a terror attack or a violent cockpit altercation that went out of control? The Dubai to Tel Aviv flight made an emergency landing at Tabuk in Saudi Arabia on September 30 after an altercation between the two pilots. Israeli officials said the co-pilot stabbed the captain and allegedly tried to crash the aircraft. More than 170 passengers were on board and most were Israeli. The plane went into a rapid descent before passengers and crew members intervened. The aircraft was later brought under control and landed safely in Tabuk. Flydubai has said the reason and motive remain unknown pending a formal investigation.

Who Was the Injured Pilot?

The pilot injured in the incident has been identified in Indian media reports as Smit Machchhar, an Indian national and former SpiceJet pilot. India Today reported that Machchhar was the captain on the Flydubai Boeing 737 fleet and had joined the airline in 2022 after spending years with SpiceJet. Reports said he underwent surgery after being stabbed and was later stable. Other reports said both pilots were taken to hospital after the emergency landing. Reuters has also reported that Israeli officials identified the attacker as an Omani national. Details about the pilots and the exact sequence of events are still being checked as authorities investigate.

How Did Passengers Help Save the Aircraft?

How were the passengers saved? According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, passengers and crew members entered the cockpit after the aircraft began a steep descent. They helped overpower the alleged attacker while another set of pilots on board took control of the aircraft. Flight tracking data showed the plane dropped thousands of feet in a very short time. The passengers later remained in Tabuk for several hours before a replacement Flydubai aircraft took them onward to Tel Aviv. Reuters reported that the passengers departed Saudi Arabia on a replacement flight. A rescue flight also landed in Israel as authorities arranged for passengers to return safely.

Israel Calls It a Terror Attack as Motive Remains Unclear

Israel has described the incident in much stronger terms than the airline has. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz called it an attempted jihadist terror attack and said passengers had helped stop the alleged attacker. Israeli security officials have also referred to the possibility that the plane was being deliberately brought down. At the same time Flydubai has urged people not to make premature conclusions. The airline said an altercation happened in the flight deck and stressed that the underlying reasons and motives were not known at that stage. Israeli media reports have also noted that other explanations were being examined earlier in the investigation.

What Happens Next in the Investigation?

The Flydubai FZ1073 incident has therefore raised major questions about aviation security and cockpit safety. The aircraft was carrying around 180 people and could have faced a far more serious outcome after the sudden descent. Saudi authorities arrested the alleged attacker after the landing and began questioning him, according to Israeli and international reports. The investigation will now focus on what caused the cockpit confrontation and whether there was an intentional attempt to crash the aircraft. For now, the basic facts are clear. A Flydubai plane travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv was diverted to Saudi Arabia after a violent cockpit incident. The passengers survived and reached Israel, but the motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

<media:keywords>Ontario, Ontario fall colours, Ontario fall foliage, El Niño Ontario, fall colours 2026, Algonquin fall colours, Ontario autumn</media:keywords>

Will the Super El Nino ruin Ontario’s famous fall colours this year? Experts say there is no need to panic but the timing of the colourful season could change. The climate pattern is expected to bring warmer than normal weather to Ontario during the fall. That could delay the cooler nights that normally trigger the biggest changes in leaves. Susan Dudley from McMaster University said warmer weather may push the colour change back in some areas or make the transition last longer. Environment and Climate Change Canada climatologist David Phillips also said the colours should still arrive. The main difference could be that people need to wait longer.

Why Does El Nino Affect Ontario's Fall Foliage?

Why does El Nino affect Ontario’s fall foliage? Trees respond to changes in daylight and temperature as autumn arrives. Green leaves get their colour from chlorophyll which helps trees carry out photosynthesis. As winter approaches trees pull nutrients back from their leaves and chlorophyll breaks down. This allows yellow and orange pigments to become visible. Red and purple colours come from anthocyanins which can also help protect leaves from sunlight. Cooler nights and bright days usually create the strongest display. With a warmer El Nino pattern this year those cooler nights may arrive later. Susan Dudley said that could mean slightly duller reds in some areas because trees may not need to produce as much anthocyanin.

Could Ontario Still See Spectacular Fall Colours?

Could Ontario still get a spectacular fall colour season? Experts say yes and several conditions are working in the trees’ favour. Last year some areas saw weaker colours after limited rainfall and hotter summer weather left trees stressed. This year trees across parts of Ontario have generally received enough summer moisture and have not experienced the same level of stress. Phillips said the warmer weather could even make leaf watching more comfortable because people will not have to deal with very cold conditions while visiting parks and forests. Ontario also has a strong mix of maple trees and other woody plants that create the bright red orange and yellow landscape that attracts visitors every autumn.

Where Will Ontario's Fall Colours Appear First?

So where should people expect the fall colours first? The season normally moves through Ontario in stages. Northern areas change first before the colour wave moves toward Muskoka and then central Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area. Algonquin Provincial Park is already showing strong colour with sugar maple and red maple trees displaying some of the season’s best foliage at the canopy level. The normal Ontario fall colour window runs from about mid September to late October. This year Phillips said the overall progression could be pushed back by several weeks because of the warmer El Nino pattern. That means anyone planning a fall trip may need to adjust the timing of their visit.

Will Super El Nino Change Ontario's Autumn?

Will the Super El Nino completely change Ontario’s autumn? That does not appear to be the expectation. The bigger impact may simply be a later and possibly slightly less intense colour change in some locations. Another factor could actually help the trees. Phillips noted that Atlantic hurricane activity has been significantly lower this year. Hurricane remnants can bring heavy rain strong winds and cloudy conditions that cause leaves to fall early or turn brown before reaching their brightest colours. Ontario therefore still has a good chance of getting the autumn display people look forward to every year with a message that wait a little longer and the reds oranges and yellows should still arrive.

<media:keywords>Maharashtra, Maharashtra startups, Maharashtra AI Policy 2026, M-Hub Maharashtra, AI Innovation City Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra startup ecosystem, Maharashtra AI investment</media:keywords>

Could Maharashtra develop into a leading innovation destination due to the growth of the state's startup and artificial intelligence ecosystem? The state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had remarked that there were more than 30,000 startups in the state and that the number represents roughly 18% of the total number of startups in the country. The statement was made while Fadnavis was addressing the fourth edition of The Governance Challenge at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai. Fadnavis said that youth-driven research and innovation would help make Maharashtra an effective tech center. He also said the government wants ideas developed in classrooms and research centres to eventually become practical solutions and globally competitive businesses.

What Is Maharashtra Planning for Startups?

So what is Maharashtra planning for its startups? Fadnavis said the state is developing M-Hub, described as Maharashtra's first dedicated startup incubator. The aim is to create a stronger support system for young entrepreneurs by connecting ideas with mentors, technology, incubation facilities and markets. He said the government wants the full innovation journey to move from an idea to implementation and then to global expansion. The focus is not only on creating startups but also on helping promising ideas turn into products and businesses. The state has also been working on policies designed to strengthen research, innovation and entrepreneurship across different sectors.

Could Navi Mumbai Become an AI Innovation Hub?

Could a 300-acre AI Innovation City in Navi Mumbai become the next big technology project in the state? Fadnavis said an Innovation City focused on artificial intelligence and advanced technologies will be developed on 300 acres in Navi Mumbai. The project is part of a wider push to build infrastructure around emerging technologies. Maharashtra's AI Policy 2026 also proposes AI Innovation Cities across five innovation regions and six Centres of Excellence. The policy targets more than ₹10,000 crore in AI investment by 2030-31 and aims to create more than 1.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs in AI and AI enabled sectors.

How Many People Could Benefit From Maharashtra's AI Plans?

How many people could benefit from Maharashtra's AI plans? Under the Maharashtra AI Policy 2026, the government plans to provide AI skills training to two lakh young people and professionals. The policy also includes a target of at least 2,000 GPUs and support for 5,000 MSMEs adopting AI technologies. A proposed ₹500 crore AI Startup Venture Fund is aimed at supporting AI based startups and helping create a stronger innovation ecosystem. The policy also proposes the Maharashtra AI Mission and AI incubators to support research and development. Government documents describe the broader goal as creating an environment for responsible AI development while attracting investment and building local technology capabilities.

Can Maharashtra Turn Its Startup Base Into Global Companies?

The bigger question is whether these plans can turn Maharashtra's existing startup base into more globally competitive companies. Fadnavis said the state wants to move from generating innovative ideas to putting them into practical use and eventually expanding them globally. His comments come as Maharashtra combines its 30,000 plus startups, M-Hub plans and AI focused infrastructure with the new Maharashtra AI Policy 2026. The policy includes investment, skilling, computing infrastructure, startup support and AI research as major areas of focus. For now, the numbers and projects outline the scale of the state's ambition. The next stage will depend on how these initiatives are implemented and how effectively startups, researchers, industry and government work together.

<media:keywords>India, India battery storage, Green Energy Corridor Phase 3, GEC-3, battery energy storage, 50 GWh storage, renewable energy India, viability gap funding</media:keywords>

Can India build enough batteries to support its fast growing renewable energy capacity? The government is planning a new funding push for battery energy storage as solar and wind power continue to expand. The support will come under Green Energy Corridor Phase 3 or GEC-3. The plan includes viability gap funding for battery storage projects that use eligible Indian made components. The government will discuss with industry what should qualify as locally made. GEC-3 is designed to strengthen transmission and storage so more renewable electricity can reach the grid when needed. The programme is expected to support storage deployment while also encouraging greater domestic manufacturing of battery components.

Why India Needs More Battery Storage

Why does India need so much battery storage now? Solar and wind power do not produce electricity at a steady rate throughout the day. Solar generation falls sharply after sunset while demand can remain high. Battery energy storage systems can store electricity when supply is available and release it later when demand increases. Under GEC-3 the government plans to add 50 GWh of battery storage and build transmission infrastructure capable of moving up to 135 GW of renewable power. India already has government backed VGF schemes supporting about 43.8 GWh of battery energy storage. The Ministry of Power says storage is important for integrating renewable electricity and maintaining a stable power system.

How Far Behind Is India in Battery Storage?

How far behind is India in battery storage? The gap is still large compared with China. The figures cited by the government put India's battery storage capacity at around 9 GWh in June 2026, while China's capacity was around 400 GWh. At the same time the Power Ministry has already issued tenders for large storage projects and more capacity is planned through GEC-3. India is also trying to build a domestic battery supply chain through its Advanced Chemistry Cell PLI scheme. The government has an ₹18,100 crore programme aimed at establishing 50 GWh of advanced battery manufacturing capacity. These efforts are intended to reduce dependence on imported components as the storage market expands.

What's Next for the Green Energy Corridor?

What happens to the Green Energy Corridor programme itself? The government plans tighter monitoring as GEC-3 moves forward. The first phase is expected to be completed by March 2027 while pending work under the second phase will receive higher level monitoring. A project monitoring unit will coordinate with states and the MNRE Secretary is expected to review progress every three months. A committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary will conduct reviews every six months. States are also being asked to use competitive bidding to bring private companies into storage projects. The wider GEC-3 scheme was approved at about ₹1.86 lakh crore and is aimed at strengthening transmission for renewable energy growth.

Can Batteries Help Stabilise India's Power Grid?

Can batteries also help keep India's power grid stable? The government says yes as renewable power takes a larger share of electricity generation the grid needs better tools to handle changes in supply and demand. Battery storage can respond quickly and help manage fluctuations. The Central Electricity Authority has recommended specialised equipment using battery storage to support grid stability. India's official energy storage outlook also projects a much larger requirement ahead, with total storage needs expected to rise from 82.37 GWh in 2026-27 to 411.4 GWh by 2031-32. That makes the GEC-3 battery push part of a much larger transition. India is not only building more green power. It is now trying to build the batteries and grid needed to actually use it.

<media:keywords>ADR, 111 MPs MLAs switched parties, ADR party switching report, political defections India, anti-defection law, Nagaland defections, West Bengal MPs, BJP NPF NCPI</media:keywords>

Is “Aaya Ram Gaya Ram” politics becoming a bigger feature of Indian elections? The report prepared jointly by the Association for Democratic Reforms and National Election Watch claims that 111 sitting MPs and MLAs had switched parties post election victory between 2022 and 2026. This includes 26 members from Lok Sabha, seven Rajya Sabha MPs, and 78 MLAs. It is said that these figures account for 2% of the total 4,876 MPs and MLAs in the country. According to ADR, these cases represent about 2% of the country's 4,876 MPs and MLAs. The report is based mainly on election affidavits and information published by the Election Commission, Parliament and state assemblies. ADR also cautions that the list may not cover every possible case because official data is not systematically maintained.

Which States Saw the Most Party Switching?

Which states saw the biggest movement? Nagaland recorded 32 party switches, the highest number in the ADR analysis, followed by West Bengal with 20. Telangana recorded nine while Goa and Punjab each recorded eight. All 20 cases counted in West Bengal involved Lok Sabha MPs. The figure is linked to a major political development in June 2026 when 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs announced their merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India or NCPI and sought recognition as a separate group in the Lok Sabha. Contemporary reports confirmed that the 20 MPs had moved away from the Trinamool Congress and aligned with NCPI.

Which Parties Lost and Gained Elected Representatives?

Which parties lost the most elected representatives and which parties gained them? ADR says NDPP lost 25 representatives, followed by AITC or Trinamool Congress with 20 and Congress with 19. BRS had nine departures while AAP and NCP each recorded seven. On the receiving side, NPF attracted 32 representatives, BJP attracted 29 and NCPI received 20. ADR says these three parties together accounted for 73% of all representatives who joined another political party during the period covered. The report therefore shows that party switching was not simply a series of isolated individual moves. In several cases it involved larger political realignments and organised movement between parties.

ADR's Four Categories of Party Switching

Were all 111 cases actual defections? ADR says no. The organisation divided the cases into four categories: individual party switching without resigning from the House, formal party mergers, resigning from the House and winning a by-election after joining another party, and joining another party after disqualification under the anti-defection law before winning a by-election. ADR pointed to examples from Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh involving resignations or disqualifications followed by by-elections. In Nagaland, a large number of legislators moved together in the context of the NPP-NPF merger. The classification matters because the legal and political circumstances behind each case were different rather than identical.

What Factors May Be Driving Party Switching?

Why are so many elected representatives changing political parties? ADR raised several possible structural factors including the attraction of political office, money and power, weak internal party structures and questions about the effectiveness of the anti-defection law. The report also highlighted the role of Speakers and Chairpersons in deciding defection complaints and the time such proceedings can take. Political leaders have offered their own interpretations. Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya and CPM leader Ramchandra Dome criticised party switching as harmful to democratic functioning and called for greater voter awareness. Those are political assessments rather than findings established by the ADR data itself. The report's factual takeaway is simpler: 111 sitting MPs and MLAs changed parties after winning elections between 2022 and 2026.

<media:keywords>SEBI, Shares Bazaar, Shares Bazaar SEBI penalty, SEBI Shares Bazaar, 48% assured returns, unauthorised PMS scheme, Shares Bazaar MMFF, SEBI penalty</media:keywords>

Did Shares Bazaar Pvt Ltd cross the regulatory line by promising investors returns of up to 48%? The Securities and Exchange Board of India has imposed an aggregate penalty of ₹20 lakh on Hyderabad based Shares Bazaar and four officials over an investment scheme called Making Millions Financially Free or MMFF. SEBI said the company was registered as a research analyst but its activities went beyond that registration. The regulator found that the MMFF scheme offered fixed returns ranging from 18% to 48% per year and gave investors the impression that their money was being deployed in the securities market. SEBI examined the company’s activities between March 16, 2021 and December 16, 2022.

SEBI Questions Whether MMFF Was an Unauthorised PMS Scheme

The biggest issue raised by SEBI was whether the MMFF programme was effectively being run like an unauthorised portfolio management services or PMS scheme. According to the regulator, investor agreements promised fixed returns and 100% capital protection. SEBI said it found no evidence that the money was actually invested in the securities market. Bank records showed around ₹72.66 crore in credit entries and ₹72.41 crore in debit entries in one ICICI Bank account during the period examined. The regulator also pointed to transactions carrying descriptions such as “PMS”, “Dividend” and “Referral”. SEBI said the repeated referral payments suggested a structure resembling a multi level marketing model used to attract more investors.

Money Transfers Between Shares Bazaar and KPPL Under Scrutiny

SEBI also examined the movement of money between Shares Bazaar and Kisaan Parivar Pvt Ltd or KPPL, a group entity linked to director Bhupal Nanavath. The regulator found that around ₹13.81 crore moved from Shares Bazaar to KPPL, while about ₹3.35 crore moved in the opposite direction. SEBI said investor funds were allegedly used for payments to earlier investors as well as dividends and referral amounts. Shares Bazaar argued that the MMFF programme had been created by former CEO Tirumala Lakshmi Venkata Ramesh without board approval and that the money was raised through privately placed compulsorily convertible debentures. The company also said PMS related material stayed on its website because it had accidentally remained on a live server.

SEBI Rejects Shares Bazaar's Explanations

SEBI did not accept those explanations. The regulator said the documents produced by the noticees were not sufficient to support the claims and some of the material fell outside the period under examination. SEBI also noted that PMS related content remained available even after an advisory issued in March 2022. The regulator held that Shares Bazaar had gone beyond the limits of its research analyst registration and violated provisions of the SEBI Research Analysts Regulations, 2014 and the SEBI Intermediaries Regulations, 2008. The directors and senior management were also held responsible for their respective roles. SEBI said the exact amount of unfair gain could not be calculated because the funds were mixed and moved between entities.

Who Has to Pay the ₹20 Lakh Penalty?

So who has to pay the ₹20 lakh SEBI penalty? Shares Bazaar has been fined ₹10 lakh. Director Bhupal Nanavath, director Prasanna Lakshmi Atluri and former CEO Tirumala Lakshmi Venkata Ramesh have each been fined ₹3 lakh. Current CEO Mitta Naresh has been fined ₹1 lakh. SEBI also considered earlier regulatory action against Shares Bazaar, including restrictions involving Shares Bazaar AIF in February 2024 and cancellation of its stockbroker registration in July 2024. The case puts renewed attention on assured return schemes that promise unusually high gains while presenting themselves as market linked investments. For investors, the key question remains simple: when a scheme promises 48% returns, what exactly is backing that promise?

Did Cam Schlittler just haunt the Boston Red Sox all over again? Yankees blanked the Red Sox in the first game of American League Wild Card Series by defeating them by nine runs at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday when Schlitter delivered yet another strong postseason outing against Boston. The Yankees’ right hander pitched six and a third innings without allowing any run. He gave up just two hits and a walk and struck out 10 batters. It was an extension of his impressive postseason track record against Boston when he pitched eight scoreless innings in Game 3 of last year’s Wild Card Series.

Boston's Offense Collapses Against Schlittler Again

The loss was especially painful because Boston's offense had already been struggling before the playoffs started. During 24 regular-season games in September the Red Sox ranked last in the Majors in runs per game with 3.0. They also ranked last in batting average at .219 and had a .651 OPS. Against Schlittler they could not find a breakthrough. Boston managed only two hits before the game turned into a blowout late. The Yankees scored twice in the seventh and then added five runs in the eighth. Ben Rice delivered the biggest blow with a grand slam as New York pulled away from a game that had stayed relatively close for six innings.

Roman Anthony's Injury Adds to Boston's Problems

Boston also suffered a worrying injury scare involving Roman Anthony. The young outfielder left the game after only two at-bats because of soreness in the same right hand and wrist that had kept him out for nearly four months earlier in the season. His condition made his availability for Game 2 uncertain after the loss. That creates another problem for a Red Sox team already searching for offensive rhythm. Manager Chad Tracy had hoped to enter the postseason with a stronger lineup after several key players missed time with injuries, including Ceddanne Rafaela, Willson Contreras and Adley Rutschman. Anthony's latest issue could make an already difficult situation even more complicated.

Ben Rice Powers Yankees' 9-0 Blowout

The Yankees also received a major contribution from Ben Rice, who homered twice and drove in five runs in the 9-0 victory. His first home run came in the fifth inning against lefty Erik Miller after Boston starter Payton Tolle had kept the game within one run. Rice then delivered the grand slam in the eighth. Tolle made his first career postseason start and kept Boston in the game for much of the night, but New York's offense eventually broke through. Boston's pitching was not the main story in Game 1. The bigger issue was the complete lack of offensive response against Schlittler and the Yankees bullpen.

Red Sox Face Elimination in Game 2

The Red Sox now need to react quickly in Game 2 on Wednesday night, otherwise, the series is over. The Red Sox will be throwing right-handed veteran Sonny Gray, who had a 18-5 record and ERA of 2.72. The Yankees will be opposing with left-handed Max Fried, who had an ERA of 2.80. The best-of-three Wild Card Series gives Boston almost no room for another quiet offensive night. The Red Sox have already shown this season that they can recover from difficult stretches, going from a 32-46 start to a 32-5 surge that carried them into the postseason. Now they need that version of the team to appear against the Yankees.

Can Apple really sell 6 million units of its first foldable iPhone in just a short launch window? Counterpoint Research says Apple could ship up to 6 million iPhone Duo units in 2026. The estimate covers a much smaller number than Apple's usual iPhone sales but it would still give Apple a major entry into the foldable market. Counterpoint says early production could limit supply. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 and Apple has confirmed that pre-orders will begin on October 16 with sales starting October 23 with the device now being one of the most closely watched new products in Apple's lineup.

Foldable Market Growth Gives Apple a Major Opportunity

The iPhone Duo is entering a foldable market that is still small compared with the wider smartphone business with IDC expecting global foldable smartphone shipments to reach 22.9 million units in 2026 and that would represent growth of about 12.6 percent from the previous year. IDC says Apple's entry is a major reason the category is growing instead of declining. Counterpoint has also forecast Apple taking about 25 percent of the global foldable market in 2026. The research firm says the short selling period and early supply limits are important factors behind the 6 million unit estimate. The forecast therefore depends heavily on Apple's ability to ramp production.

The $1,999 Price Tag Could Test Consumer Demand

Price could be another major test for the iPhone Duo as Apple has placed the foldable at the top of its smartphone lineup with a starting price of $1,999 for the 256GB model. Higher storage versions go up to $3,199 for 2TB. The premium pricing comes as smartphone makers face rising component costs. Counterpoint says higher memory prices are putting pressure on the wider smartphone market and pushing companies toward higher prices. IDC expects the global smartphone market to shrink sharply in 2026 while foldables remain one of the few areas showing growth. Apple is therefore entering a growing category with a very high price tag.

China Performance Adds to Apple's Premium Strategy

Apple's position in China also gives the iPhone Duo launch another major backdrop. Counterpoint said the iPhone 18 Pro series recorded 12 percent year-on-year growth during its first week in China. The stronger start helped Apple take the top spot in weekly smartphone sales during the period covered by the research. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max went on sale on September 18 after Apple unveiled them on September 9. Apple has also seen a strong performance from its recent iPhone lineup in China even as the country's wider smartphone market faces pressure. That creates another important test for the company's premium strategy.

Can Apple Actually Reach 6 Million Units?

So will the iPhone Duo sell 6 million units in 2026? That number is still a Counterpoint forecast rather than a final sales result. The biggest factors will be production capacity, the October 23 launch, the $1,999 starting price and consumer interest in foldable phones. IDC's 22.9 million unit market forecast shows that the category is growing, while Counterpoint expects Apple to quickly take a meaningful share despite its late entry. Apple's strong early iPhone 18 Pro performance in China adds to the interest around the company, but the iPhone Duo will face a different challenge. Apple now has to prove that customers are ready to pay a premium for a foldable iPhone.
